Emergency Medical Procedures

At Feral to Family, our mission to rescue and rehabilitate cats often means stepping in during their most critical moments. In 2024 alone, we spent over $37,000 on emergency medical care, including treatments for broken legs, severe infections, dental surgeries, and life-saving hospitalizations. One of the cats closest to our hearts was Raider, a sweet rescue who tragically went into kidney failure. Between hospitalizations, medications, follow-up visits, and tests, Raider’s medical bills exceeded $8,500. We supported him every step of the way, providing the best care possible until his body could no longer fight. On January 17, 2025, Raider passed peacefully in my arms with the compassionate help of Dr. B at Garden City Vet Care.

But not all of our stories are bittersweet—many have happy endings! For example, we rescued two litters of 5-week-old kittens who contracted a terrible virus, spiking temperatures of over 106 degrees. They required hospitalization and extensive supportive care, with their medical bills exceeding $11,000. Thanks to our incredible veterinary team and unwavering dedication, all of them made a full recovery and found their forever homes! There are so many more stories like these, and even more to come. Your donations make these lifesaving efforts possible.

Genderal intake and wellness

At Feral to Family, we ensure that every cat we rescue and prepare for adoption receives top-notch general medical care. Each adoptable cat is fully vaccinated, including FVRCP with booster and rabies, spayed or neutered, SNAP-tested, and microchipped. For senior cats or those with health concerns, we also run additional bloodwork to ensure they’re in the best possible shape for their new homes. Even after collecting adoption fees, we were still responsible for nearly $15,000 in medical expenses in 2024—a figure we expect to rise in 2025 as we anticipate an increase in adoptions. This essential care sets our cats up for healthy, happy lives in their forever homes, and it’s only possible thanks to the generosity of supporters like you.

We plan on expanding our TNR programs

At Feral to Family, we go beyond rescuing and adopting cats—we are deeply committed to addressing the root of feline overpopulation through Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) programs. TNR is a humane and effective way to reduce the number of stray and feral cats in our community by trapping them, spaying or neutering them, and returning them to their colonies. This prevents future litters, reduces fighting and disease spread, and improves the overall quality of life for these cats. In 2025, we anticipate expanding our TNR efforts to better serve our local community and to help control the growing stray cat population. Every donation helps us make a meaningful impact, from caring for adoptable cats to managing feral colonies and preventing future homelessness.

Can't donate right now? Volunteer your time to save a cat or kitten

Are you passionate about cats and looking for a way to make a difference? Catpurrccinos Cat Café is looking for dedicated volunteers to help us care for our furry friends and support our mission to find them loving homes.

As a volunteer, you can play a vital role by:

  • Cleaning and maintaining the café to create a safe, welcoming environment for both cats and visitors.
  • Caring for the cats, ensuring they are happy, healthy, and loved.
  • Speaking with visitors and potential adopters to help connect cats with their forever families.

Prefer to help from home? We’re always in need of foster families! Fostering provides cats and kittens with a safe, loving environment while they wait for adoption. It’s one of the most rewarding ways to make a direct impact on their lives.
